In Madea-in-Law (2025), Tyler Perry returns as the tough, hilarious matriarch Madea, who’s about to become something she never imagined — a mother-in-law. When her wild and free-spirited grandson, Malik, announces his sudden engagement to uptight corporate lawyer Vanessa, the family is shocked. Madea, suspicious of Vanessa’s snooty ways and hidden motives, makes it her mission to test her — with outrageous results.

As wedding plans unfold in chaotic fashion, Madea clashes with Vanessa’s equally judgmental mother, Constance (played by Angela Bassett), turning every pre-wedding event into a battlefield. But beneath the comedy, secrets unravel: Vanessa’s engagement is partly fueled by pressure from her mother to marry “up,” while Malik hides financial problems that could derail everything.
The climax hits at the rehearsal dinner when Madea exposes the truth with her signature blend of blunt wisdom and love. Amid tears, fights, and a few arrests, Malik and Vanessa confront their families, stand up for their love, and decide to marry on their own terms.
By the end, both mothers-in-law reach an uneasy truce, bonding over grandbaby talk and shared sass. Madea-in-Law closes with a wild wedding that only Madea could survive — or officiate.
